I started private lessons with Elizabeth last year as physical therapy for my scoliosis. My goal was to better compensate for my curvature, and build strength where my back was concave. I wanted to stop my scoliosis from getting worse and I wanted to be able to hold certain poses without the fear that a nerve would catch or my back would go out.
Elizabeth focused on very basic poses in the beginning. With a lot of hard work and focus, I was able to hold these poses, while maintaining proper alignment even with my scoliosis. She encouraged me to open to change and transformation, and with a lot of yoga practice along with chiropractic therapy and traction therapy, I was able to improve my curvature ten degrees.
Her patience and ability to problem solve has been instrumental in my practice.
It’s an amazing journey now as I tackle harder poses. Elizabeth continues to be just as encouraging as she was in the beginning. Her patience and ability to problem solve has been instrumental in my practice. Now instead of avoiding poses that caused me discomfort, I pin point what I was doing that was causing the discomfort and execute the pose correctly from a place of strength instead of frustration.
And Elizabeth is probably the sweetest person I know. I leave every lesson with a smile on my face. I think I was just so used to treating my scoliosis with contempt and aggression, trying to force it to be something its not. And she has helped me look at my back differently, treating it with kindness and understanding.
I’m so grateful Elizabeth was recommended to me and I look forward to the future as I grow stronger and confident in my practice.
